Colorado In-State Talent 2013 and 2014

  • Buff fans.. Let me have some input.. Who are the top prospects in the State of Colorado in 13' and 14' ? Maybe even some guys you feel are sleepers? Do you guys think the Buffaloes' can keep top talent in-state. Does Jim Mcalwain(sp?) at Col State affect upcoming Buff recruting?

    Discuss..

    TIA.
(And P.S. , I come in peace, I am just legitamely curious about these things.)

  • To add onto what dail said Trenton "tiny" Noller is a 2014 OL...another kid to keep an eye on is fairview qb Anders Hill.

  • 2013's are well-known. Parsons and Fox were the highlights of this year's in-state class.

WR Sam Martin from Fairview HS in Boulder is another '14 to keep an eye on.

ATH Evan White from Cherokee Trail HS in Aurora, too, for '14.

I don't know much about the '15 guys yet. They were just freshmen last season and with CO being strongest with OLs, you generally don't see a lot of freshmen distinguish themselves.

Regarding CSU, the only impact they're really having on us is that they are landing some guys that we would have liked to have had as Gray Shirts by offering them in the current year.

  • Yeah Noller and McCaffery are the big names right now. Inevitably, a number of OL will reveal themselves, it happens every year. That's basically the trend in the state of Colorado, WeGO, mostly big farm boy type OL and a few reasonably good athletes. The thing about the state of Colorado is any super prospect is basically known about for several years because the talent level for the average HS team really isn't that high.

Historically, when Colorado has been good, we get most of our players from SoCal and Texas. Our current staff has made a concentrated effort to re-establish themselves in these areas, but also have hit Washington DC and NJ reasonably hard too. Despite the cries from out fan base, controlling talent in the state of Colorado really is not all that vital to our success, though we should be plucking the best in-state prospects every year and we've missed on those guys the last few seasons. I think we have a good ones in Phil Lindsay and Mitch Parsons though.

As for McElwain, and maybe this is the smug Colorado fan in me, our staff is all ex-NFL guys with strong coaching pedigrees. Despite very limited national fan fair about this staff, most feel confident that these guys are well suited to have Colorado returning to a high level in a season or two. So when you ask about McElwain and cite his pedigree and his accomplishments, speaking just for myself, I really don't think it holds much of a candle to the guys on our staff and I really am not very concerned about CSU. The truth is the CU football team had been horribly mismanaged on a number of levels over the past 5 seasons and it's been a huge mess and an herculean clean up, but CSU is an even bigger mess somehow and their clean up doesn't seem as far along as ours.

  • On a personal side note, nice to see CSU and their new coach is not affecting you guys to much at all, good to hear.

"much at all" isnt really accurate. There are 2 in state offensive linemen that had commitable CU offers, but chose the rams because they showed more love than the CU staff who had them on the back burner, but still offered in hopes to keep interest down the road.

Both Nowland and Golditch had CU offers (although they werent "priorities") but chose the Rams because they made them feel like a priority.

CSU can have the in state kids they have landed. I think Vaden, Davis and Nowland are legitimate BCS level players who, if they can play hungry and stay elligible may bite the Buffs like some rams like McDougal, etc have done in the past.....but it is what it is.

The locals would have more input on this, but Ed McCaffrey's kid, Christian, RB Valor Christian is the only '14 recruit I've heard of. He's most likely Stanford

And I don't think anyone's concerned about JMac at this point.

There's a linemen named Trenton Noller making some noise for '14. In fact, that kid contacted me at the old Buff Scoop wanting to do an interview. We played phone tag a little bit and never caught-up. My guess is I'll try to hit him up towards the beginning of next year. The fact that he contacted me, first, is obviously a good sign that he has a lot of interest in the Buffs.

My bad. Guess I should have read the rest of the thread before posting about Noller.

    Thanks Boise.

  • Would love to know the thought process that went into accepting Lisella now vs slow playing Johnson or Nowland..... that one is definitely a head scratcher for me

  • I could be wrong but I thought accepting Lisella came after Nowland committed the lambs. I highly doubt it but I wonder if the whinning about not getting instate OL led the staff to "jump" and take Lisella before the acceptable in state kids were all committed elsewhere. Again, I doubt that happened but who knows with all the crying about not getting the instate OL.
