How do we match up? Thoughts?
Their specialty is the outside three-pointer, it's how they've beaten some better teams. Think three Brady Heslips (last year's NCAA game against Baylor) and you know that Tad Boyle is going to have to adjust his defense outside the arc. In particular, two senior guards, Paul and Richardson, have to be checked and intimidated.
The good news? To start, they're in a new system with a new coach this year for the Illini, and all hasn't meshed that well as soon as they hit Big Ten competition. They don't have much height, so the massive interior men who've deviled us in the Pac-12 aren't there to push Scott around. They rebound poorly, so that could be the game right there. Also, they favor man-for-man D, so the stunned look our team has when they face a good zone shouldn't happen.
This game is winnable. Very. After starting the season 12-0, they've gone 10-12 since their Mizzou loss. Look for Roberson to have rebounds in the low teens, and if somebody steps up with outside shooting, our free throws drop, and Scott is really healed, a win is really possible.
I wonder what the line is going to be on this one? I figure they will be favored but would guess not by much.
I think generally the teams that give CU the most trouble are the teams with size and shot blocking. They arent a particarly big team and are very guard driven. That should be good as long as we can guard on the perimeter. The other thing that gives CU trouble is on ball pressure, which IL will probably do since they have the quickness outside, they could give us trouble.
Most have Illinois winning by 1 1/2. Close. See link: http://www.vegasinsider.com/college-basketball/odds/las-vegas/
My Big 10 country friends all like the match up for CU. Roberson could go off on the boards and Scott could have a good game. Like it was mentioned above, stop the three and you stop Illinois. I watched them play Iowa a couple weeks back and Iowa knocked them around. Illinois might have had 12-14 points with 6 minutes left in the half. Pretty ugly.
I love this match-up for many reasons, some listed by you guys, but number one being that the Buffs have killed teams that rely on their guards as much as Illinois does, Spencer, Ski, Sab, and even XT can lock them down. It should be considered a disappointment if the Buffs don't win.

This is a game X John gets lose. He is going to be able to slash to the glass. The right lineup is Diddie, Ski, Roberson, X, and Scott. If Ski keeps his jock on, we have a great shot to win this!
